Disclaimer: this is a parody and should be treated Disclaimer: this is a parody and should be treated as such. Second disclaimer: this is my own voice and these are my own lyrics. Nothing here is AI, Claude is terrible when it comes to music, I can confirm.I think this describes my four years in Germany better than anything else I’ve written. 🤣It has been hard. Harder than I expected and harder than I’d admit it. But it made me tougher, and at some point I stopped waiting for it to get easier and started finding it funny instead. Also, I’ve been singing my whole life and I never knew what to do with it, because there are a million people who can sing and that felt like reason enough not to bother. Turns out the answer was to use it for this purpose (maybe)? The best thing that’s happened since I started posting about life in Germany is the messages. People telling me they thought they were the only one who felt this way and THAT is the whole point. Being a foreigner here is tough, but it gets a lot lighter when you find out you’re not the only one. And I made friends so thanks 😂❤️Do you find this relatable? 😆#expatingermany #lifeingermany #parody #immigrantlife #germany
Moving to Germany healed a few wounds in me, and o Moving to Germany healed a few wounds in me, and one of them was the identity I rejected for so long.I feel ashamed to admit this, but because I didn’t grow up in a country that celebrates itself and what I heard everywhere was „leave, there is no future for you here“, I kinda adopted this mentality which got so deep into me that it even showed up in the way I cooked. I was baking American pies and eating quinoa before anyone on social media had heard of it, because anything that wasn’t Romanian felt more interesting to me. And honestly, as a kid I wasn’t even a big fan of Romanian food. 😅 Now I eat things I refused to touch back then. The first realisation came in India. I was so homesick that Christmas that I finally understood what I had been throwing away and made my sarmale from scratch. They tasted horrible and the meat was so bad. When I came back home I started a food blog and still didn’t cook Romanian dishes. And then I left again anyway and moved to Germany. In Germany I kept trying to make the food I grew up around, and for years it never tasted the way it was supposed to. That’s when I started believing that food carries something of the person cooking it. I know how abstract that sounds…but living in India and eating my way through that country is what convinced me, because you can taste when someone cooks something they belong to.Now I’ve made peace with where I come from, and my Romanian food tastes better than it ever has.One of my conclusions here is thar food is never only a meal. It’s information, memory, and everything you feel about the place you’re from.#expatingermany #romanianexpat #lifeabroad #foodidentity #lifeingermany
Number 8 is my favourite 😅 I’m not really into tr Number 8 is my favourite 😅I’m not really into trends, but this one felt like the right place to put my thoughts about moving abroad.“I think you might not be giving yourself enough credit for what you’ve achieved so far.” Someone told me that recently, and I heard the same thing in my comments after the post where I said I still don’t feel confident in German even with a C1.The thing is, moving abroad really is one of the most challenging things you can do to yourself. It makes you build your identity from scratch. It takes off every piece of clothing you were wearing until then and leaves you standing there with nothing familiar on you. It humbles you and pulls you so far out of your comfort zone that growing becomes the only option left. And tbh I would do it again. It still plays with my nervous system more often than I’d like to admit, but this is exactly how I found my peace, and how I got to look at myself from angles I would never have found if I had stayed home.Would I be more financially stable if I hadn’t moved? Probably. Would I have reached this point with myself? I don’t know. And that’s honestly my biggest win.So what’s your kinda chic about moving abroad?#lifeingermany #expatingermany #immigrantlife #kindachic #movingabroad
How do you know when you’ve found your soul place? How do you know when you’ve found your soul place?I’ve lived in Bucharest, in India, and in three cities in Germany, and I keep noticing the same thing. Some places make you shine and some quietly drain you, and I don’t think it’s luck. Some things just fall into place naturally, and I think it works the same way with places as it does with people. When I first came to Düsseldorf as a student I thought this was it, it was the city of my dreams. Two and a half years later I’m honestly not sure anymore. 😅 Something here costs me more than Bucharest ever did, and I can’t always name what it is.I know a lot of it is up to me. I know you can build a life almost anywhere if you decide to. But I also believe some places give you more room to become yourself than others, and pretending otherwise has never helped me.So, do you have a soul place? And did you have to leave it to find out? #expatingermany #lifeingermany #düsseldorf #livingabroad #expatlife
I speak five languages and most people around me s I speak five languages and most people around me speak two. So why am I the one who feels like this?Even after learning German properly, I still feel like I can’t do the things I used to do effortlessly in Romania. Everything was easier back then, and for a long time I couldn’t understand why, because it’s not like my German got worse. It got better.I think the answer is cognitive load. German isn’t wired into my brain the way my mother tongue is, and that alone might explain why I feel average here while I was doing much more advanced work back home. My competence doesn’t disappear, it just becomes different the moment I switch languages. And I want to be fair, I’ve had a lot of compliments about my German since I moved here. But I’ve also had questions and feedback that stayed with me (few) and they made me wonder whether a foreigner can ever get the same feeling for a language that a native has (not the grammar or the vocabulary, the feeling).I’m genuinely researching this and I’m not done thinking about it. If you live in a language that isn’t yours, I’d really like to know how it works for you. Drop your experience in the comments, would love to hear if I am the only one!#expatingermany #learninggerman #lifeingermany #germanlanguage #movingabroad
What if I had stayed home? What if by now I would What if I had stayed home? What if by now I would be in a better place?Turning 30 abroad has me having very mixed feelings. On one side I feel incredibly grateful for how much the last years shaped me into this version of me at 30. There were many painful experiences too, mostly because moving abroad means building an identity from scratch. You are basically naked. 😅 You get out of your comfort zone every single day. Whatever version of you existed back home, you have to let it go, because it simply does not fit here anymore (at least that was my case). On the other side I keep thinking, what if I had stayed home? What if by now I would be in a better place? But what is a better place, actually?Social media and society taught us about timelines and must haves. Buy more, achieve more, travel more, share everything, prove you are happy, prove you own things, prove your career is going well. And make it look either effortless or so hard that you end up burned out getting there. By 30 I realised that is a big lie. So here is what I actually think now, after everything I lived abroad:Social life matters more than I ever admitted. Relationships build your life and sometimes even your career. I underestimated that because I grew up in a sceptical environment where everybody thinks “people do bad to you, people are mean, trust no one, everyone is envious” etc. So for years I chose to keep my distance from people. No matter how talented or hardworking you are, that only takes you to a certain point. After that it is about the people you meet. Every success story I have heard has community somewhere inside it. The right person at the right time, or family and friends who carried them. I understood that I cannot do it alone. Please bring communities back, I really don’t like what capitalism did to them. 😅When something feels wrong, cut it from the root, like we say in Romanian, tai răul de la rădăcină. Don’t wait until it is too late. It took me years to recognise those moments, but now I know. The longer you stay on the wrong train, the more expensive it gets to go back. You have to know when to speak up! I have been a people pleaser my whole life bc I
This isn’t something I made up, it’s a theory from This isn’t something I made up, it’s a theory from Kurt Lewin, a German psychologist who is considered one of the founders of social psychology.I’ve been living in Germany for 4 years and I still haven’t made any German friends. But things are slowly starting to change and I’m yet to build my first real social connections here. After my last post some of you texted me wanting to meet, and I genuinely appreciated it. Social media can actually be good at bringing people together, so I’m trying to make good use of it.But here’s the thing I keep coming back to. Maybe this isn’t cultural at all. Maybe it’s about age. If I had stayed in Romania, who knows, maybe it would have been just as hard to find friends there too, because once you get older you start valuing different things, including time alone.I would love to have a real social circle but sometimes that feels difficult, because I don’t always receive the same effort I put in. And then you have to be honest with yourself about your time and what actually matters to you. What I keep hearing is that people are lonelier than ever. That feels really sad to me and makes me think of the blue zones and what they have in common: community. People spending real time together, because we are social creatures after all.How does friendship work where you live? I’m curious.#lifeingermany #expatingermany #immigrantlife #friendships #sociallife
Ever since I was little, people told me things wer Ever since I was little, people told me things were better abroad. So I left. After 1 month of studying in Germany, I decided I wanted to move there. But life had other plans for me and before living in Germany, I lived in India. In India I felt at home immediately, not because of the place but because of the people. They welcomed me like I had always been there. In Germany, four years later, I still feel like a foreigner. I thought going back to Romania will make me feel like home but after my last holiday I started noticing it doesn‘t feel the same either anymore. Now I see things I couldn’t see before and changed in ways I didn’t ask for.I carry one piece of Romania, one piece of India and one piece of Germany inside me everywhere I go and I think that is the whole point. Because I don’t think we are meant to belong to a place.I think I belong nowhere and everywhere. Maybe to conversations with strangers that feel like coming home. To food that tastes like somewhere you’ve never even been. To anyone who looks at you and says “me too.”What about you?Do you feel you belong somewhere, or nowhere?#expatlife #lifeingermany #livingabroad #foreigner #romanian

It’s all a matter of PERSPECTIVE. This is what liv It’s all a matter of PERSPECTIVE. This is what living in Germany for 4 years taught me.It healed parts of me I didn’t know needed healing, and made me stronger in ways I couldn’t have imagined 4 years ago. But getting here wasn’t a straight line. It was a long and bumpy road. Our brains like patterns and familiarity. When you move abroad, everything you’ve known your entire life suddenly works differently, and at first that feels personal, even when it isn’t. You adapt, sure, but adapting leaves a mark. It becomes work you have to do on yourself, whether you’re ready or not.We grow the most in the environments that challenge us. The choice is whether you spend your energy resisting that or let it surface, even when it’s uncomfortable.I like to say that I see this process like a snake shedding its skin. Uncomfortable, necessary, and the only way to grow into the next version of yourself. What did you resist at first when you moved abroad?#romanian #livingabroad #lifeingermany #immigrantlife #expatingermany
“Go back home.” Or „Why don‘t you go back home?“ “Go back home.” Or „Why don‘t you go back home?“4 years of living abroad (in Germany) and I still don’t have a simple answer to this. The language load, the unfamiliar systems, the loneliness of building everything from zero in a place that is so different from what you are used to in your home country. Nobody warns you that having a certificate in a language is completely different from actually living inside it, relearning skills you already have, thinking in something that still doesn’t fully feel like yours even after years. And yes, sometimes I still miss home. Sometimes it feels like it was so much easier back there, operating in my mother tongue, having mental space to focus on other things 😅 But moving abroad does something strange to you. It makes you grateful backwards (and in general too). You only start appreciating what you had once you understand what it cost you to leave it.Sooo, missing home and choosing to stay are not opposites. They can exist at the same time and that’s okay. 🥹❤️#expatlife #expatingermany #expat #romanian #lifeingermany
This month marks exactly 4 years since I packed my This month marks exactly 4 years since I packed my life into a 23 kg suitcase and moved to Germany from Romania to pursue my dream of moving abroad.Growing up, I was constantly told Romania was not good enough. The education was poor, people were tricky, corruption would never stop. Nobody encouraged me to love where I came from. When I moved in May 2022, I thought I was prepared. I spoke German, I had done the research, I had even spent time in Germany as a student before (well, more of a summer school, but still). I thought I knew what to expect.I had no idea how different a plan looks from reality. The cognitive load of living in a second language, the bureaucracy, the incredibly long processes, missing my family and my husband, feeling lonely in a city of strangers. It brought me to tears almost every day for the first three months. 😅Learning: Whatever the expat glamorous reels on social media show you, they are leaving out the hard parts. I was young and optimistic back then, I chose to see the good parts only and hope it will be ‘better’.I simply realised that in the end I was running away, hoping to find myself on the other side. Did I? I am not sure. I am much better than I was 4 years ago for sure.If any of this feels familiar, tell me which one hit closest to home. I would love to hear your story and connect with you 🫶#expatlife #expatingermany #expat #romanian #lifeingermany
This year has been extremely transformational for This year has been extremely transformational for all of us. I hear people saying that 2025 was incredibly painful and I am one among these people. This is not a complaint post, I'm just presenting you the things the way they happened and showing you that life is not as glamorous as social media presents it. Here's what I learned:1. Healthy lifestyle doesn't mean gym and healthy food. It also means mobility, how you take care of your posture and what you feed your brain every day. Every thought matters.2. I used to hate Romania. I denied my roots for a long time. Finally I healed the non-patriotic side after having difficulty experiences in Germany and understanding how valuable my roots and my home country are.3. Social media hustle culture hurts our brains, trust and real passions. I found myself doing things which I actually did not truly wanted, just because social media showed us sth else. Silly me. Been there, done that, never again.4. As you age everything becomes so much easier to tolerate or ignore. I don't care about a lot of things I used to care before (looks, what people say about me). It really feels good.5. Change really starts within you. For a long time I was blaming somebody else for a lot of things, but when I started changing myself, everything settled. It's not your parents or how you were raised. You have the power to break cycles. Life has its ways to show you stuff.Happy New Year, everyone! Wish you all the best and more wisdom in 2026🤗❤️
Merry Christmas, everyone! Although we are not tog Merry Christmas, everyone! Although we are not together this year and my heart breaks (because ever since I left Romania, holidays hit harder when you are an expat), I am so happy to be home. Finally!I have only 1 wish every year ever since: to spend one Christmas or Easter with ALL my family members. I am still super grateful for this year because I get to spend Christmas with my mom, home, in Bucharest, and that is absolutely priceless. Literally I am so rich! Maybe for some it's something usual, for me, after almost 4 years of aviation where I was not allowed to take leaves on holidays, it is like something super big and important for me.I know it sounds cliche but really spend time with your dear ones and appreciate them, guys! You never know how long it lasts or what turns life takes. Take care and be present!Merry Christmas❤️P.S. Our cat moves a lot, it's almost impossible to take a picture with Mishu😆

It marks the beginning of winter traditions, good luck rituals, and ancient customs that go back centuries. One of my favourites? Planting wheat (grâu) on the night of November 30th.
